The Cold War

SS 5.6 Korean War/Vietnam/Cold War Era:
Understands the social and economic impact of the Korean, Vietnam and Cold War. (i.e. economic factors, social issues, events, key people, places, technology

This scenario will focus on the Cold War Era, this scenario can be played a few different ways, I’ll have two different scenarios in this post and I’ll be adding more later on. The reason for this is that the Cold War spans a large period of time with a very complex background. Standard wise we’ll be covering Chugach SS5.6 “Understand the social and economic impact of the Korean, Vietnam and Cold War.”

The Cold War sprung forth from the ashes of WWII, during the next two years after 1945 the Soviet Union and United States began consolidating their governmental beliefs of Capitalism and Communism. For example the US would support anti-communism in the Korean, Vietnam and many other wars that broke out to keep the Soviet Union contained. By supporting the countries at war to help remove soviet union control.

This leads us to the Korean War in which the US supported by the NATO (unification of non communist countries), leads major support and aid to the communist opposing forces of South Korea. North Korea supported by the communist soviet Union and China engage in open warfare on june 25 1950. NATO then rushed with mostly American forces to support South Korea against North Korea. The war ended with the retreat of South Korea and it supporting allies, nearly 88% of the troops were American. The was a major loss and humiliation for one of greatest superpowers.

The Vietnam War started 5 years later on november 1st 1955 to 30th april 1975. The war was fought between North Vietnam supported by China, Soviet Union and other communist allies. Where as the government of Vietnam was supported by the US and other anti-communist allies. The communist supported rebels used guerilla tactics to outmaneuver the US inforced government. In response the US began carpet bombing with the usage of chemical warfare, in an attempt to remove the foliage and burn out of the rebels. Direct US military involvement ended in 1973 and the war was over on 1975 with the fall of Saigon.

These war were considered proxy wars for the overarching Cold War. The Cold war lasted until the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. Across the Soviet Union previously acquired nations began to revolt, wanting independence from Soviet Union rule. Eventually leading to the downfall of the communist party within the Soviet Union, this led to the eventual downfall of the Soviet Union.

RPG Forums Rubric.

I've designated this post as the holder for my personal writing assessment rubric. I have tailored this to my historic RP's and included elements like "Character Development" and "Historical Accuracy". This should give some examples as to what you're looking for when you reread and edit your writing.

Trait
Emerging
Developing
Proficient
Advanced.
Writing Quality
Writing contains several misspellings, grammar errors, uses the same word repeatedly and the post contains no detailing of events.
Writing contains some misspelling, several grammar errors, uses the same word many a times through out the post, with barely any detail and little description of events.
Very few misspellings, few grammar errors, several repeated words per paragraph, and it has enough detail to describe the events.
No spelling errors, no grammatical error, rarely uses the same word in a paragraph and each paragraph is well detailed and describes written events.
Historical accuracy
Character was written without any knowledge of the topics events and lacks historical accuracy.
Character is written with several historic errors and is easily seen as a fake.
character is almost entirely historically accurate and could nearly be real. Using proper names, events and times from historical guides and resources.
Using historical guides and reference the player writes the character with enough authenticity to make their character seem real.
Character development
Over the course of the RP the player puts very little development into the character, the character stays the same and doesn't change based on events that occur.
Over the course of the RP the player puts some thought into the development of the character. As major events occur the players evolves their character illogically to events.
Over the course of the RP the player evolves their character per event properly but they still feel a bit artificial
Over the course of the RP the player evolves their character to such an extent that the character feels alive, reacting and changing based on occurring events.

World War 2

This will be part two of my World at War scenarios, we’ll be covering World War II in both the pacific and European theaters. The RPing mindset will be the same as the last one, meaning that we’ll focus on the emotional aspect of war. If you haven’t seen my WWI RP check it out here, and the guide to RPG Forums here.

We’ll be covering Chugach standard SS 5.1 to understand the key elements of WWII, major events, Key people, place, and technology. To cover we’ll be RPing as a company in the European theater and as a ship crew in the pacific theater.

World War II started officially in 1939, however, Japan had already initiated plans to dominate the pacific theater and Asia. They were already at war with China in 1937, the official World War however, started in 1939 with the invasion of Poland by Germany. Then the subsequent war declarations by the United Kingdoms and France. By 1941 Germany had conquered most of European territories through campaigns and treaties. The United Kingdom and British Commonwealth were the only surviving countries fighting against Germany.

In June of 1941 Germany forming allies with Japan to form the Axis launched its invasion of soviet Russia turning the European theater into the largest land war ever, turning the theatre into a war of attrition. In December of 1941 Japan attacked United States and European Territories and quickly conquered much of it.

The advance of the Axis forces halted when Japan lost the battle at Midway against the US, Germany was then defeated in Africa and then decisively defeated in Stalingrad by the Russians. The Axis losing initiative began strategically retreating, Russia began its invasion into Germany, and the US crippled Japanese naval forces and captured strategic points.

33_World_War_II_in_Europe.gif

The war ended with the invasion of Germany by the western Allies in the beginning months of 1945. 73 division were led by Dwight D. Eisenhower into Germany. 49 infantry, 20 armor, 4 Airborne divisions. 49 were American, 12 British, 7 french, 3 Canadian and one Polish. This is where the RP will start. The players will create characters as one of the divisions, either infantry or armor. To successfully RP I recommend reading up on real life divisions, watching Fury or Band of Brothers. These two movies I feel give a great example of the emotional development of war borne characters.

For resources check here:
player:
The teachers role for this will be to issue orders and missions for the characters to preform.

Since the war was fought on two fronts the European theater and the Pacific theater. The above resources are for the European while the below are for the Pacific theater.

For resources:
Player:

Players of this Rp will play both the pacific and European theater with two different characters respectively. They’ll be playing as navy officers on a naval ship that pushes back against the Japanese threats.

Teachers your role will the same as in the European theater.

World War 1

This RPG Forum scenario is the beginning of the two part series focusing on the two great wars of the modern era, World War 1 and World war 2. Considering the two wars linked together from the start of the first World War in 1914 to the second in 1939, we’ll be RPing them in sequence as a two part series. For previous RPG Forum posts and guide please check here.

World War 1, also known as the First World War, began in october 1914 and ended in 1918. It was fought between the great powers of the world. They assembled into two alliances: the Allies ( United Kingdom, France and the Russian Empire), and the Central Power of germany and Austria/Hungary. Later Italy, Japan and the US sided with allies while the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria sided with the Central powers. See below for the entire list.

On july 28th of 1914 Austro-Hungarians declared war on Serbia quickly followed up by an invasion. Russia hastily reinforced and supported Serbia. Meanwhile Germany had begun the invasion of Belgium and Luxemburg before moving towards France. This led to Britain's involvement into the war, who quickly halted the Germans at Paris. The war in France referred to as the Western Front quickly become a war of attrition.

Elsewhere on the eastern front, Russia pushed through the Austro-Hungarians and marched forward into Prussia. Although they were quickly stopped by the germans. In november 1914 the Ottoman Empire joined the Central powers opening fronts in Caucasus, Mesopotamia and Sinai. Italy and Bulgaria joined in 1916, allying with the allies and central powers respectively. United states entered the war in 1917 and with a year ended the war. Ratifications were made and peace treaties were signed.

RP wise this scenario is going to focus more on the emotional and human side of this war, instead of the large scale RPing that we’ve done in previous scenarios. On that note, the concept of this RP is for the characters to play as soldiers in a company sent over to engage and end World War 1. You can check my resource section for timelines and information on the war. I might recommend following a historically accurate company from WWI

For character development and ideas on RPing war based characters. I’d recommend watching both Fury and Band of Brothers. Both are highly, in my opinion, accurate to as what I imagine actual war being.

The Game-Masters role in the RP will to form the orders and missions that the players deploy on. Of course you’ll have to be historically accurate, that information you can find below in my resources selection.

Lastly we’ll be covering Chugach standard SS5.4 WWI: “ Understands the key concepts of the First World War and the events leading up to it.”

Character Sheets will follow a normal format:

Civil war

This post will mark the beginning of modern wars, we’ll focus on the civil war first, then move up through WWI, WWII, Korea, and last Vietnam. If this is the first RPG Forums scenario post you’ve read please head over to here for a guide, and my other RPG scenarios. As a note this series will be RPing wars and the interactions of wars with people. If you’d like to increase RPing accuracy for war try watching Band of Brothers or Fury.

We’ll be covering the Chugach Standard SS 5.2 “Civil war and Reconstruction Era”. Specifically between 1861 to 1865. Specifically we’ll be RPing key events, the interactions between important personal and political events.

The American Civil War was between the Union and Confederacy states.
map1861.jpg

Upon President Lincoln victory and inauguration of presidency in 1860 the confederacy seceded from the United States. Forming their own nation, soon after in 1861 they attacked Ft. Sumter, located in the middle of charleston harbor, after repeated attempts to peacefully stop the war President Lincoln called on all USA states to send forces and supplies for the war effort against the confederacy.

The Civil War is marked as the bloodiest, harshest and most taxing war for the United States. Lasting four long years, over 237 named battles were fought, this doesn’t, however include all of the minor skirmishes and battles. The war is characterized by its brutality and soldiers lost in battle, it was war fought only to kill troops, instead of conquering lands or resources. The War ended in the late-summer of 1864 when Robert E. Lee's surrendered to  Ulysses S. Grant at  Appomattox Court House.

As this standard is focused on the economic, political and individual events of a large scale war. The goal of the RPers will to role-play as military, slave and political characters. Teachers or the game-master will play as characters that can manage the games timeline and drive it through the civil war.

Students roles:

Teachers roles:
  • Major generals, Robert E Lee, Ulysses S Grant, President Lincoln, and other major roles to help move the rp forward.
